Climate Change Essay
Climate Change Essay Climate change in the world can be caused by various activities. When climate change occurs; temperatures can increase a dramatically. When temperature rises, many different changes can occur on Earth. For example, it can result in more floods, droughts, or intense rain, as well as more frequent and severe heat waves. Oceans and glaciers have also experienced some changes: oceans are warming and becoming more acidic, glaciers are melting, and sea levels are rising. As these changes frequently occur in future decades, they will likely present challenges to our society and environment. During the past century, human activities have released large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Most of the gases come from burning fossil fuels to produce energy. Greenhouse gases are like a blanket around the Earth, trapping energy in the atmosphere and causing it to warm. This is called the greenhouse effect and it is natural and necessary to support life on earth. However, while greenhouse gases buildup, the climate changes and result in dangerous effects to human health and ecosystems. People have adapted to the stable climate we have enjoyed since the last ice age which ended several thousand years ago. A warmer climate can bring changes that can affect our water supplies, agriculture, power and transportation systems, the natural environment, and even our own health and safety. There are some climate changes that are unavoidable and nothing can be done about it. For example, carbon dioxide can stay in the atmosphere for nearly a century, so Earth will continue to warm in the future. Global warming has really taken effect in the world over the last century. It is the unusually rapid increase in the Earths average surface temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released as people burn fossil fuels. Global warming is due to the enhancing greenhouse gases emission and build-up in the Earths environment. The gases that have an influence on the atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, dinitrogen-oxide, and methane. Almost 30 percent of incoming sunlight is reflected back into space by bright surfaces like clouds and ice. In the other 70 percent, most is absorbed by the land and ocean, and the rest is absorbed by the atmosphere. The absorbed solar energy heats our planet. This absorption and radiation of heat by the atmosphere is beneficial for life on Earth. Today, the atmosphere contains more greenhouse gas molecules, so more of the infrared energy emitted by the surface ends up being absorbed by the atmosphere. By increasing the co ncentration of greenhouse gases, we are making Earths atmosphere a more efficient greenhouse. Climate has cooled and warmed throughout the Earth history for various reasons. Rapid warming like we see today is unusual in the history of our planet. Some of the factors that have an effect on climate, like volcanic eruptions and changes in the amount of solar energy, are natural. Climate can change if there is a change in the amount of solar energy that gets to the Earth. Volcano eruptions can really affect climate, because when it erupts it spews out more than just lava and ash. Volcanoes release tiny particles made of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. These particles get into the stratosphere and reflect solar radiation back out to space. Snow and ice also have a great effect on climate. When snow and ice melts Earths climate warms, less energy is reflected and this causes even more warming. There are many different ways that plants, animals, and other life on our planet can affect climate. Some can produce greenhouse gases that trap heat and aid global warming through the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is taken out of the atmosphere by plants as they make their food by photosynthesis. During the night, plants release some carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. Methane is made while farm animals, such as cattle and sheep digest their food. Cars and trucks can effect climate by releasing carbon dioxide when fossil fuels are burned to power them. When wildfires occur, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere. However, if a forest of similar size grows again, about the same amount of carbon that was added to the atmosphere during the fire will be removed. Some effects that scientists have predicted in the past would result when global change was occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise, and more intense heat waves. Scientists have confidence that global temperatures will continue to rise for decades to come, largely due to greenhouse gase s produced by human activities. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) stated that the extent climate change effects on individual regions will vary over time and with ability of different societal and environmental systems mitigate or adapt to change (The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). This has been the warmest decade since 1880. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, 2010 and 2005 has been the warmest years on record. The earth could warm by an additional 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit during the 21st century if we fail to reduce emissions from burning fossil fuels (The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). The rising of temperature will have great effects on the earths climate patterns and on all living things. Industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide from 280 parts per million to 379 parts per million in the last 150 years (The Intergovernmental Panel on Climat e Change). In conclusion, we need to take part and try to stop global warming and other effects on climate change. If the earths temperatures continue to rise in the future, living things on earth would become extinct due to the high temperatures. If humans contribute to control global warming, this world would be cooler and the high temperatures we currently have would decrease. If everybody as one take stand and try to end most of the climate changes that are occurring, this world would be a safer place to live on.

Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment Essay -- essay
Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment This paper on equal opportunity employment will show a few different types of discrimination that would impede on a person from getting hired into an organization. It also shows some of the different Acts from the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prevent discrimination when hiring workers into an organization. Equal Employment Opportunity in the Working Environment Equal employment opportunity involves both workplace nondiscrimination and affirmative action. Equal opportunity has changed the way businesses and organizations recruit, hire, and even act in the working environment. These changes have been put in place due to the increasing numbers of women, people with different racial and ethnic backgrounds, persons of different ages, their able-bodied ness, and religion. In 1964 a change was brought about by the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Title seven of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was to enforce the constitutional right to vote, to confer jurisdiction upon the district courts of the United States to provide injunctive relief against discrimination in public accommodations, to authorize the Attorney General to institute suits to protect constitutional rights in public facilities and education, to extend the commission on civil rights, to prevent discrimination in federally assisted programs, to establish a Commission on Equal Employment Opportunity, and for other purposes (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). This Act changed they way women and people of different ethnic backgrounds voted for public office, worked in major organizations, and how they proceeded with other major daily activities. This gave the people more rights when it came down to applying for jobs or voting in schools or different organizations. This put everyone at the same level. No race, gender or ethnic power was higher ranking then the other. Most companies after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 employed the idea of affirmative action. ââ¬Å"Affirmative action is legally driven by federal, state and provincial, and local laws, as well as numerous court cases. It requires written reports containing plans and statistical goals for specific groups of people in terms of such employment practices as hiring, promotions, and layoffsâ⬠(Hunt, Osborn, Schermerhorn Jr., 2003, pg.62). Equal Opportunity was mainly brought about due... ...oyment. Under this act Employees cannot be forced to participate, or not participate in a religious activity as a condition of employment. Employers may not treat employees or applicants less - or more - favorably because of their religious beliefs or practices. Managers must also reasonably accommodate employees' sincerely held religious beliefs or practices unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the employer. If other employeesââ¬â¢ do not like the person the manager must do everything in his power to prevent religious harassment in the workplace (The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). à à à à à à à à à à In conclusion, there are many rights to the employeesââ¬â¢ when it comes down to equal opportunity employment. In this paper you learned of a few different types of discrimination towards employeesââ¬â¢ and how different acts protect them in the workforce. It also has shown what rights a person has as an employee in the working environment. References Schermerhorn, J.R & Hunt, J.G & Osborn, R.N (2003). Organizational Behavior Eight Edition. Morocco a developing country
Developing countries are countries with non- or undeveloped industrial base, low living standards, and low HDI (Human Development Index) compared to developed countries like the United States and the European Union countries. Morocco is a good example of a typical developing country. It has an undeveloped industrial base, low living standards, and a low HDI. In fact, Morocco is ranked at the 130th place over 185 member states of the UN in 2013. Also, according to the United Nations Development Program, Morocco has a medium human development. The reasons that make Morocco a developing country are numerous. Actually, the three main reasons that make the Cheriflan Kingdom a developing country are: French colonialism, low standards of social programs, and absence of human rights. Firstly, Morocco is a developing country because of its historical roots. Indeed, one of the main reasons that make Morocco a developing country is the French Protectorate. The French Protectorate, or the French colonialism, worsened the situation in Morocco since its establishment in 1912 until the Independence in 1956.The French and some Moroccan elite constituted by bourgeois Fassis and Rbatis took the biggest part of cake. This French-Moroccan oligarchy took share of the biggest and most lucrative businesses in Morocco such as agriculture, banks and insurance, industry, and politics. This situation made the rich richer and the poor poorer. Until nowadays, we still notice than the nerve of Morocco, which is economics, is still held by noble and notoriously rich families. Thus, the distribution of wealth in Morocco is unbalanced as we observe that there are the rich, the poor, and a small entity that akes the middle class. In developed countries, middle classes are the ones that empower the economics and politics of a country. Take the example of Norway where a minister uses a bike or public transportation to get to his/her Job. We are not ready to see this anytime soon in Morocco. My argu ment, which is based on a historical basis, is that Morocco suffered and is still suffering from the French colonialism and that the Protectorate was mainly in advantage of France not of the majority of Moroccans, who were very poor in the first half of the twentieth century.Unfortunately, Morocco has a very low standard of social programs. Instead of taking the best part of the French colonialism, Morocco took by large the bad side of the French system: one of the most tangible consequences of the French presence in Morocco is the cultural alienation. However, Morocco did not take advantage of some aspects of the French system such as the Social Security. Indeed, the French Social Security is a program made by diverse organizations that take care of citizens in four contexts: illness, old age, family, and accident. In Morocco, there is no such system.Unless you are working in the state owned sector or in a good private company, you don't have access to the Social Security. Morocco has only organizations such as CNOPS, CNSS, or private insurance and banking companies that have a backup role in case of unfortunate happening. This is a major factor that does not make Morocco a developed country, but a developing one. Finally, Morocco has a long standing reputation of non respecting human rights. Right atter the French colonialism, King Hassan 2 came to power and starts to use repressive techniques to dissuade some zealous intellectuals.Fortunately, with the present of the contemporary King Mohamed 6, the situation is getting better especially with the instauration of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission. One of the most important criteria of a developed country is to respect human rights and maintain freedom for every citizen. Unfortunately, Morocco is not very good in that topic. We still have abuse of power, corrupted politicians, civil servants, and forces of security servants. Consequently, Morocco still has a long path to follow until it reaches a full status of democracy and becomes a developed country. To sum up, Morocco should have Scandinavian countries as role models since they are truly the perfect example of developed and modern nations. All the four Nordic countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland) suffered from the WW II but have reborn from their ashes like a phoenix. Morocco has never been involved in a major bloody war but still suffers from the presence of a soft power called Protectorate. As a country with a promising young population, we should be more open to the world, be working harder, pragmatic, and more tolerant to achieve the status of a developed country.

Economic Recovery Post-Depression: The New Deal
Roosevelt's New Deal The Great Depression started in the United states but spread into a worldwide economic down-turn. The stock market crash of 1929 caused Billions of dollars to be lost along with thousands of investors. It was the ââ¬Å"deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn in the history of the Western industrialized world up to that timeâ⬠(Stock Market Crash). Some say that this was a starting cause of the Great Depression. Over 20,000 banks failed. On average ââ¬Å"one out of fourâ⬠(Living New Deal) of Americans were out of work by 1933. If people aren't working families go hungry. Some had it harder in the Dust Bowl. In Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas kids wore dusk masks and farmers watched their crops blow away. Years of drought and poor farming technique created these problems and the dust that blew in to homes. In 1933 Franklin D. Roosevelt after his election put in place reforms for economic recovery, job creation, and civic uplift to reverse the effects of the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression called the New Deal. The New Deal offered economic recovery through the Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC) and several other programs. These programs aided the bankrupt local and state governments and ââ¬Å"injected a huge amount of federal spending to bolster aggregate incomes and demandâ⬠(Living New Deal) . This program helped refinance mortgages so people could stay in their homes. The SEC provided emergency relief to families to help support them when many Americans couldn't support themselves. The agricultural and industry prices where stabilized. The National Industrial Recovery Act (NRA) introduced codes for fair competition and guaranteed labor rights. On the other hand the Agricultural Adjustment Act (AAA) provided funding to farmers to supplement their crop production.President Roosevelt's New Deal created new jobs through the ââ¬Å"ground workâ⬠(Kelber) created by the American Federation of Lab or (AFL) . Through the instability of the economy ââ¬Å"one out of fourâ⬠(Living New Deal) Americans were unemployed and because ââ¬Å"private industry was in a state of collapseâ⬠(Kelber) the government took charge fixing things with the ââ¬Å"greatest and most successful job-creating effort in American historyâ⬠(Kelber). Without work many went hungry and it affected their families as mothers and fathers watched their children starve.Agencies provided millions with jobs and saved families. They also recognized the right for workers to create ad have unions. The Public Works Administration (PWA) build thousand of highways, bridges, hospitals, schools, theaters, libraries, city halls, homes post, offices ,airports, and parks many are still in use; putting hundreds of thousands of people to work. The Works Progress Administration (WPA) gave millions of unskilled workers jobs building Gymnasiums, brailling books, or even stuffing rare birds. Many criticized these proje cts but they put in place necessary facilities. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) every city across the country touching the lives of people and changed the public atmosphere. The men and women who worked in these corps believed they were setting the foundation for a greater society. They planted trees, built public parks, drained swamps to fight malaria, restocked rivers with fish, worked on flood control projects, and worked to conserve the environment. Their work ââ¬Å"dramatically changed the futureâ⬠(CCC Legacy). Roosevelt's reforms saved a nation and gave it a glimmer of hope that the future would be brighter when the present was bleak.Securities and Exchange Commission(SEC), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation(FDIC), National Labor Relations Board(NLRB), and Social Security Administration are still in use today. Though their present feels like it has always been there it is hard to believe they are only eighty years old. Through their existence America was able to over come the great depression. It's hard to imagine what our country would be like with out them. Works Cited ââ¬Å"Franklin D. Roosevelt ââ¬â American Heritage Center, Inc. â⬠Franklin D. Turabian Principles
Turabian Principles Few styles have proven so effective as the Turabian method. In fact, Kate Turabian created a delicate blend of modern language guidelines and common sense, which has long been used for reference by academia. Replete with guidelines and instruction, the Turabian manual is your first step for solid paper writing. The Turabian Principles When Kate Turabian began writing her style manual, she wanted to provide a resource for the modern student. Clarity of instruction became as important as clarity of style. In a simple, straightforward way, she began to outline the principles of good writing. Unlike other style manuals which simply list guidelines and rules, the Turabian manual provides general guidance, as well. It guides students through their first approach towards their paper, and stays with them through the finalization of their citations. With advice for all sorts of academic papers, the Turabian manual has become a reference for writers of high school term papers and dissertations, alike. The Modernized Manual This manual has been recently revised and reissued by the University of Chicago Press. It now conforms to the stylistic guidelines set out by the Chicago Manual of Style. The new edition also includes guidance for the computer age, and students using word processors.

Word Choice Content vs. Contents
Word Choice Content vs. Contents Word Choice: Content vs. Contents If youââ¬â¢re used to English pluralization, you might assume ââ¬Å"contentsâ⬠is just the plural of ââ¬Å"content.â⬠And both terms do have a general sense of ââ¬Å"something within something.â⬠But there is a difference between these words, so check out our guide below to make sure your writing is error free. Content (Uncountable Noun) The singular ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠is typically an uncountable noun. Uncountable nouns are terms that refer to something as an undifferentiated whole, such as ââ¬Å"waterâ⬠or ââ¬Å"sand.â⬠The main use of ââ¬Å"content,â⬠then, is to refer to something within something else as a whole: The content of the wedding speech made the groom blush. Croissants have a very high fat content. In the first sentence above, for instance, the ââ¬Å"containerâ⬠is the wedding speech. So when we say ââ¬Å"content,â⬠we mean ââ¬Å"what the speech says as a whole.â⬠And in the second sentence, the ââ¬Å"containerâ⬠is the croissant, so the ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠is the fat in the croissant. In both cases, though, ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠involves treating something as a whole, not as separate items. Contents (Countable Noun) The plural ââ¬Å"contentsâ⬠is usually a countable noun. We thus use it when we can separate the ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠of something into individual items, like chapters in a book or items in a bag. For example: I checked the table of contents to find the appendix. The contents of her shopping bag spilled across the ground. As such, using ââ¬Å"contentsâ⬠shows that weââ¬â¢re treating each item of content as a separate thing rather than lumping them together as a whole. A table of contents. ââ¬Å"Contentâ⬠as a Verb and Adjective Weââ¬â¢ve looked at the noun ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠above, but this word can also be a verb or an adjective. As a verb, it means ââ¬Å"satisfyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"induce a state of contentmentâ⬠: He contented himself with watching the TV. The third-person singular form of this is ââ¬Å"contents.â⬠This is the only time you will need this spelling other than when itââ¬â¢s a countable noun. As an adjective, meanwhile, ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠means ââ¬Å"pleased or satisfiedâ⬠: I was content to spend my life proofreading. But the adjectival form of this word is only ever spelled ââ¬Å"content.â⬠Summary: Content vs. Contents While ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"contentsâ⬠can both mean ââ¬Å"something contained within something,â⬠thereââ¬â¢s usually a subtle difference in how we use these terms: Content is an uncountable noun. We use it when referring to the contained thing as an undifferentiated whole (e.g., the ââ¬Å"content of a speechâ⬠). Contents is a plural countable noun. We use it when the things in a container are separate and countable (e.g., book chapters in a ââ¬Å"table of contentsâ⬠). Key when choosing between these terms, then, is considering whether you can count the contained things. The only other occasion you would use the spelling ââ¬Å"contents,â⬠moreover, is as a third-person singular verb meaning ââ¬Å"satisfy,â⬠but this is quite a rare usage. And if youââ¬â¢d like further help with the spelling in a document, try our proofreading service.
